Cathy Stephens teaches the following types of workshops:

· Social Dance Basics Series: Dancing Made Easy. The easy way to learn how to dance! As you learn these popular social dances, you'll acquire basic dance skills to help you become a good partner and give you confidence on the dance floor. These classes are excellent preparation for weddings, proms, and parties as well as our vintage events.
· Vintage Dance Basics Series. Classes will focus on the basic period dance steps and variations.
· Vintage 2. This advanced series for experienced vintage dancers focuses on period styling and variations.

Fall workshops are geared toward preparing for our 19th Century Ball in December, and our Winter/Spring workshops focus on dances you can do at our Ragtime ball. No partner or preregistration required.

Price: $10 per person per session *
Location: Pittsfield Grange Hall, 3337 Ann Arbor-Saline Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan

* There is a half hour between the 10:30 and 12:30 workshops, so bring your lunch and join us for the second session. When you attend both sessions, get $2 off the second.

Social Dance Basics

How to Dance in One Easy Lesson
Saturday, September 8
10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon
In this introductory workshop you'll find out how to do four different dances by learning just one simple step. The focus will be on dances that you can learn quickly and do to a wide variety of music: one step, fox trot, tango, and "easy swing."

Oktoberfest Polka
Saturday, Oct. 13
10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon
In this "Polka Made Easy" class, you'll learn the basic steps and variations of the two-step and polka that you can use at any dance party or Oktoberfest outing.

Introduction to Waltzing
Saturday, Nov. 10
10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Learn the basic and turning steps of this elegant dance. For first-time waltzers and those who want to improve their waltzing and partnering skills.

Dances from South of the Border: Tango and "Easy Latin" dance
Saturday, January 12
10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon
By learning just two simple steps, you can do several different variations of Latin dances.

Easy Dancing to Swing Music: One Steps and "Easy Swing"
Saturday, March 8

Looking for an alternative to "formula" swing dances? Come and learn the easiest form of swing there is.

Country Dances and Quadrilles from the Early 19th Century

This session will focus on some of the dance formations and steps that are specific to set dancing from the first three decades of the 19th century.

Easy and Elegant Dances of Old Vienna
Saturday, Oct. 13
12:30 - 2:00 p.m.
Learn some of the couple dances that will be featured at our Viennese ball in December, including csardas and the elegant Polonaise.

Ancestors of the Waltz
Saturday, November 10
12:30 - 2:00 p.m.
Become acquainted with some of the earlier forms of waltz in preparation for our Viennese Ball in December.

Ragtime Dancing with your Valentine
Saturday, January 12
12:30 - 2:00 p.m.
A potpourri of the most romantic dances from the Ragtime era to prepare for our Valentine's Ragtime Trot in February. Includes One Step, tango and the elegant Hesitation Waltz and features simple steps and moves you can use for all three dances.

Fox Trots from the '20s and '30s
Saturday, March 8
12:30 - 2:00 p.m.
Work on basic fox trot steps and rhythms and learn how to dance them to slow, medium, and fast fox trots as well as very slow blues.
